Meet Samantha

BMD_0093

Hi I’m Samantha Matthews and I am a graduate of Rutgers University where I studied Journalism and Media Studies, Spanish, and Digital Communication, Information and Media. I express myself through words and let my writing speak for itself. Whether in journalism or everyday life my passion is all things fashionable.

I’m currently an assistant editor for HMP Global’s Population Health Learning Network, a digital network for health care providers and decision makers focused on key issues in population health management. The network includes Annals of Long-Term Care (print and digital), First Report Managed Care (print and digital), Integrated Healthcare Executive, Pharmacy Learning Network, and Veterans Health Today.

I am responsible for contributing to overall brand goals and content creation for each publication as well as runing brand social media accounts including creating, scheduling, and sharing content. I produce daily email blasts for each brand including house and campaign eNewsletters and monitor analytics in order to produce well-performing, relevant content.

I interview experts in the health care industy to create podcasts and videos on key issues, news, and trends in population health. I attend various industry conferences as a brand representative, where I report on scientific presentations and meet with industry experts.

I also assist with print production of First Report Managed Care, which includes creating original print-first content, proofreading, author edits/revisions, map creation, and layouot selections. I edit submissions from contributing authors for both digital and print pieces.

As a reporter for Night and Day Magazine, Star News Group’s go to magazine for entertainment in Monmouth and Ocean counties, I was responsible for producing all of the original content for each print issue as well as the corresponding website, ndmag.com. The magazine covereage includes features, dining, art, nightlife, day trips, music and shopping with 20,000 copies of each issue distributed at over 600 locations.

I worked with Google Drive and WordPress to create collaborative content, conducted original reporting and interviews and manage all of the magazine’s social media platforms, which include Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Prior to my position with Night and Day, I interned with the news team at Bauer Publishing working specifically with Life & Style Weekly, In Touch Weekly, and Closer Weekly. I worked side by side with the reporters, editors, and directors on the news team and transcribed interviews, curated breaking news round ups, conducted Twitter searches, and assisted in other projects for the weekly magazines.

While most nine-year-old children want to be teachers,  police officers, and doctors when they grow up I had a different plan. From the time I was nine-years-old I dreamed of being a writer and decided that I wanted to write novels when I  grew up. I have always loved to read and write and from a very young age I always found something magical in being able to get lost in a book and take an adventure with the characters in the story. I want to be able to write a novel one day that consumes people; a story that they get lost in and don’t want to put down.

In high school my passion for writing escalated and I got interested in journalism and the areas of fashion, beauty, and entertainment news. As a writer for my high school newspaper and then one of the paper’s editors my senior year, I was able to not only be creative and express myself through words, but also  have those words in a publication that other people could read. My dream of being a journalist and writer led me to explore the Journalism and Media Studies major at Rutgers University where I could improve my skills and gain more experience in the field and industry I knew I wanted to break into. During my time at Rutgers I was lucky enough to be able to continue pursuing my passion for writing through various classes and internship experience.

After graduating from Rutgers I spent my summer as a writing intern for Bustle’s Fashion & Beauty section. While at Bustle I was able to focus primarily on writing and had 96 published articles featured on the site. During my spring semester senior year, I was an editorial intern for Us Weekly’s Special Issues Publications where I worked on aggregating relevant celebrity news, compiling extensive research files, transcribing interviews, and adhering to deadlines.

From April 2013 to January of 2014 I was a writing intern for the Rutgers School of Social Work where I independently researched and wrote articles on topics ranging from events to profiles and academic publications. I wrote my own fashion column, All Things Fashionable, on a Rutgers blog called RUckmakers where I posted weekly articles on anything and everything fashionable. I also created my own fashion blog in October 2013, Forever Fashionable: How to be a key player in the DIY fashion world, where I managed the site, designed the layout, took a great deal of pictures, and created all of the blog content.
